THE GREATER SPACE OF THE WINTER STADIUM IN LIPTOV MIKULAS CREATED NEW CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR DIRECTOR JURAJ BENČÍK AND FOR PERFORMERS.
After several trainings in the gym hall in Košice, for the director and performers of the new Angry Birds on Ice show, this space ceased to be sufficient. It was necessary to move to a larger space, more reminiscent of the ice arenas where the performances will soon begin to take place.
The demands on how “angry birds” will move, what they will do and what they will express with their movement will increase from training to training. As producer Viktor Sucha says: “Taste grows with food” and therefore, what was enough in the initial phase is simply not enough today. “We found out that costumes could do much more than we originally thought,” says the producer. More expressive expressions supporting the storyline and theatrical side of the performance will bring the characters to life and bring the show quality to the next level.
As the construction of the giant ice sheet is still in production, experienced stage designers, who also participated in the show of Masha and the Bear on Ice, have built a replacement instead to help in the creative process. In addition to this 5-meter construction, the ice coulisses appeared in this test, which will be used in a variety of ways.
At the winter stadium in Liptovsky Mikulas it was finally possible to test the full potential of huge flags, which when maneuvering beautifully specialize and “fill” the space of the stadium. In Angry Birds on Ice, not only is art on ice, but above it. This really differentiates the show from the other ice revues you can see.
“After this rehearsal, I can better imagine individual scenes from a spatial perspective,” says Juraj Benčík. “So far, I still imagined it as a small model that used to prepare the scene. Now I see the scenes much clearer, ”he continues. “I’m glad we have a lot to choose from. We have more ideas than we can put into the show, which is a better situation than if it were the other way around. Now it will be important to drop some ideas and put together the ones we decide to leave, ”says Benčík.
